Tip of the month
Arizona heat and dust takes its toll. No motor oil repels dirt and must be changed more often under the "severe" schedule as outlined in owner's manuals. Don't let excessive wear shorten the life of your engine
Use high quality filters. Non factory filters come in different grades, low, medium and high. Use only high quality filters to keep dirt and air from engine.
Arizona sun dries out wiper blades. Treat your wiper blades with silicon to keep from failing and sticking to windshield during the summer.
Pump up your tires. An underinflated tire wears down more quickly, over heats rubber and also lowers your car's gas mileage. Check tires once a month. Nitrogen inflation is recommended.
Use a penny to check tires for minimum safety tread depth. If you can see all the hair on Lincoln's head replace the tires.
The computer system on today's average car performs more tasks than the computers on the Apollo spacecraft!
Four out of five vehicles on the road need maintenance right NOW!
Full battery power at 80 degrees drops to 65%. At freezing and only 40% when the temperature hits zero!
Park in the shade. The hot summer sun that makes the inside of your car feel like an oven also zaps fuel from your gas tank.
Wipe a rubber protectant or silicone on door and window weather-stripping to keep it in good condition. Don't use an oil based product because the oil will damage the rubber.
Does your car key share a chain with a dozen or more other keys? The weight, combined with bouncing while you drive, can wear out the tumblers inside the ignition and eventually lead to ignition switch failure.
Ask whether the gas you buy is filtered at the pump and if the station has a policy about changing the pump filters regularly. Dirt in the fuel system can lead to many problems.
When turning your steering wheel, don't hold it in an extreme right or left position for more than a few seconds. Doing so can damage the power-steering pump.
Keep your engine in tune. Fixing a car that is out of tune or has failed an emissions test can boost gas mileage by about 4 percent.
Use the right oil. You can improve your car's gas mileage by 1 percent to 2 percent by using the manufacturer's recommended grade of motor oil.
